French genre cinema has a bright future ahead of it. After an excellent year in 2023, horror made in France must make its return this year on Netflix with a shark film taking place… on the Seine. Or rather under the Seine.
A 100% French shark film
The French genre film has attracted a lot of attention in 2023 with excellent releases. At this very moment, it is still possible to discover Vermines, an urban horror film ready to thrill arachnophobes. . After these recent releases and since the revival of the genre in France which occurred a few years ago, we clearly feel the attraction of the national public for this type of production. The producers have understood this and are now deciding to increase the number of projects. The teeth of Paris
Under the Seine is located, as its name suggests, in the famous river which crosses Paris. The pitch is quite simple: “Sophia, a brilliant scientist, is alerted by Mika, a young activist devoted to ecology, of the presence of a large shark in the depths of the river. They have no choice but to team up with Adil, commander of the river police to avoid a bloodbath in the heart of the city“.
This “jaws” made in France also has a talented cast, including Bérénice Bejo, Léa Léviant and Nassim Lyes. Behind the camera, we find Xavier Gens, best known for his comedy Budapestas well as his latest film Farang, a truly successful action thriller. We are therefore very eager to discover the first images of this new project, planned for this summer. A timing that makes us smile when we know that the Seine will be largely occupied by the public for the Olympic Games.
