14 years after the last episode, this cult science fiction saga will offer its sequel next year, with Jared Leto in the leading role.

Jared Leto looks more than ready to show off his character’s skintight jumpsuit in the upcoming Tron installment, the third in Disney’s sci-fi franchise titled Tron: Ares. After playing the questionable Morbius and Joker, the actor landed the role of a “highly sophisticated” artificial intelligence program that moves from the digital world to the real world. The film will not be a direct sequel to Tron and Tron: Legacy, and is expected to hit theaters in 2025.

Obviously very excited about this new job, Leto published a first photo on his social networks which has already caused quite a reaction among Internet users.. “I just had a total orgasm (renamed “nerdgasm” by the author of the comment) because of this post”says one Internet user, when another responds: “Until you find out Jared Leto was in the suit…“. But overall, the enthusiasm seems rather unanimous. In the image, Leto is wearing a red suit, a color rather close to that worn by the antagonists of the franchise, which suggests that his character is not there to put on pearls.

We know Tron: Ares has been in the works for some time now, with the project having been in development since 2015 and having suffered some delay due to the writers’ strike. Also, the third part was first called Tron Ascension before being aborted for obscure reasons and returning to form and renamed Ares.

In addition to Jared Leto who plays the title role, you will also find on screen Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan (Kal Cestis in the last two Star Wars Jedi video games from Electronic Arts), but also the charismatic Gillian Anderson. This episode is entrusted to Joachim Rønning, Norwegian director known for Maleficent: The Power of Evil, Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge and Operation Sabotage.

Tron, a cult saga

Remember that in 1982, Tron told the story of Kevin Flynn, a video game developer who found himself transported into his creation. 29 years later, Tron: Legacy featured Sam Flynn, Kevin’s son, searching for his missing father. The first part by Steven Lisberger made a lasting impression for its unique concept and its still innovative special effects. for the time when the second was entitled to a more mixed reception, critics nevertheless praised the artistic direction and the soundtrack, still signed Daft Punk.
