A few days ago, we learned of the death of Akira Toriyama, author and designer of “Dragon Ball”. Despite this tragedy, it is obvious that his work will continue through the ages. Moreover, several projects based on his works are planned for this year, among others, a video game, a film and especially a series.

After offering “DR. Slump” in the 80s, Akira Toriyama returns with his most famous manga, Dragon Ball. In less than 10 years, he managed to make pop-culture history with a legendary work! Following this, he began to write and draw stories ending in a volume. It was during this period that Sand Land was born. 23 years later, the universe of the little demon is finally adapted for cinema, then available in video games and series. The anime will be broadcast exclusively on Disney + and will have a full season of 13 episodes. The first 7 episodes are already available and the reviews are optimistic!

When a sheriff allies with a demon

In “Sand Land”, we follow the adventures of Beelzebub, the prince of demons. Much stronger than humans, he uses his powers to be of service to them. Spectators immerse themselves in a post-apocalyptic world where survival is a daily battle and water has become an extremely rare resource! While a king with bad intentions monopolizes the ultimate source of drinking water, the sheriff of a small village asks our hero for a hand in searching for the “legendary source”. The animated series “SandLand” is adapted from the eponymous feature film released last year and develops its universe. For the occasion, new intrigues and new characters will appear.

More than a tribute, it’s a success

The anime is the result of a co-production between the studios “Sunrise”, “Kamikaze Douga” and “Anima”. Despite fans’ concerns about the artistic direction made entirely in CGI, the first feedback is very positive! Indeed, fans emphasize the pleasure of seeing such a “clean” title, with such expressiveness and which moves in all directions. The environment is respected, the difference between the warm colors and the shady places makes you “feel the heat of the desert,” says a spectator. The fans all seem to agree that the atmosphere exudes the soul of Akira Toriyama, the tribute is successful.
