How could we hate what brought us fame and money? This is the case of Kristen Stewart, the main actress in the Twilight films in the role of Bella Swan, a young teenager who falls madly in love with Edward Cullen. (Robert Pattinson), a tortured vampire, hiding his true nature from the world (despite the fact that he shines in the sun, but that’s okay!). This role still clearly suits him, like his colleague Robert Pattinson.

She never missed the opportunity to express her frustration with the shortcut people took by directly associating her with the saga.

“The sad thing is, I feel so boring because every conversation I have these days starts with ‘Twilight’ – whether or not it’s someone I’m meeting for the first time or someone I haven’t seen in a while. As you can see, even just 1 year after the release of the first film, the actress was already on edge.

A need to shine, but only under the sun of Twilight

Kristen Stewart’s anger towards Twilight is understandable. The saga is widely mocked for its pace, its inconsistencies, its cringe side, but its low-level acting (the ketchup scene from the first film is a collector’s item because it’s so cringe). Added to this is the pressure the actress felt regarding her role in the saga.

“Usually it’s the personal responsibility to the script, the character, and the people you’re working with that motivates you. But in this case, I have a responsibility not only to the script, but to everyone who is personally involved in the books.” (Kristen Stewart for Interview Magazine – 2009)

We can see that since Twilight, the actress has tried as much as possible to get rid of this image that sticks to her skin, by appearing in independent and auteur films, such as with Olivier Assayas (“Personal Shopper”) and David Cronenberg (“Crimes Of The Future”). Kristen Stewart also proved her talent with her first Oscar nomination in 2022 for her portrayal of Lady Di in the biopic “Spencer.”
