Disney is not really a lender with its successful franchises and is quick to attack any offenders who dare to appropriate Star Wars or Marvel for commercial purposes. A car wash has just learned this the hard way. The North American entertainment giant has officially filed a complaint.

On October 30, 2012, The Walt Disney Company formalized the purchase of Lucasfilm, and therefore the Star Wars and Indiana Jones sagas, for the tidy sum of 4.05 billion US dollars. The firm has the firm intention of making it the spearhead of its new strategy with Marvel and is releasing Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens in 2015. Nine years later, the universe created in 1977 by George Lucas has four more films as well as numerous series to watch exclusively on Disney+. Nevertheless, the galactic saga seems to have lost its splendor and is suffering from an overproduction of content which in no way slows down Disney’s ambitions. Several films and series are already in production while Star Wars will be experienced in 2024 at the rate of releases on Disney+.

Star Wash, Lucasfilm Strikes Back

Lucasfilm has officially filed a complaint against a car wash station located in the city of Santiago, Chile. The Disney subsidiary takes a dim view of this business which is openly inspired by Star Wars to stand out from the competition. If the name makes you smile, Star Wash and its employees disguised as Stormtroopers and Darth Vader find themselves in conflict with an adversary as powerful as they are unexpected given the nature and size of this 100% Chilean business.

The manager of the car wash – Matias Jara – openly and without hiding the visual codes and certain accoutrements of the science fiction saga imagined by George Lucas. He even “dared” to use the official font of the franchise to create his own logo. Nevertheless, the problems really began when the latter registered the name of his company with the Chilean administration. For Lucasfilm, it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The North American company justified itself by claiming that Star Wash could deceive customers. Matias Jara said:

They say our name “Star Wash” is confusing because someone might come in with the intention of buying a movie, helmet, or action figure that they sell, but we don’t make movies and we don’t sell not their products or anything like that. -Matias Jara

The saddest part of this affair lies in the fact that this complaint endangers the company founded by Matias Jara which currently has around ten employees. Disney’s action forces Star Wash to spend their financial resources to defend themselves, which was not planned in its business plan. Nevertheless, the washing station is supported by Internet users on social networks who do not fail to point out a procedure considered “mean” on the part of Disney.
