After previously claiming to end a series, its showrunners and Disney+ have just signed a season 2. But what could the series tell when the first season has already covered the entire events of the novel from which it is based?

A season 2 that no one wants

It is according to leaks disclosed by the media Deadline and Variety that Disney+ subscribers were surprised to learn thata season 2 had just been signed for SHOGUN. Economically speaking, this announcement is not really surprising given the audience record recorded during the broadcast of the first episodes. With more than 9 million views recorded by the company in a few hoursit is not surprising to see the series want to be renewed by FX – its network – but much more by its showrunners!

In fact, they had previously stated that they did not want to create other episodes, considering that they had already told everything they wanted, in addition to having already fully adapted the entire book from which its story is taken. For many, this announcement sounds like a false good idea motivated solely by easy money. In the opinion of showrunner Justin Marks himself, he said “open to the idea of doing a season 2 if there was a story to tell beyond the book. I don’t think we want to go on an adventure without a road map”.

A season 2, but why?

But if the series already fully adapts the original book by James Clavell, the questions then turn to the scenario that this new season will take. In fact, the story of the central characters Toranaga and Blackthorne has already concluded and it is difficult to imagine a continuation of their development. Viewers are therefore wondering if season 2 would not in fact be about the possibility of adapting other novels by the author, in particular those recounting the various conflicts linked to opium or the Sino-British war.

For the moment, no additional information concerning the plot of this sequel has yet leaked and fans remain on the lookout for the slightest revelation that could appear on the web. In fact, according to various American media reports, FX reportedly refused their interview requests several times, not wishing to provide any scrap of information whatsoever.. While waiting for any news, SHŌGUN is still available on Disney+ in France.
