Launched on February 14, 2020, Dreams is as much a game as it is a creative platform on which to create many experiences. Developed by Media Molecule, the title now sees its tools being used beyond the production of video game experiences.
Thanks to its very numerous tutorials and its tools as developed as they are accessible, Dreams allows players to develop original games, recreation of known elements like Hogwarts, remakes or amateur demakes, and share the whole with the rest of the community.
Dreams at the cinema, the dream come true
The original creations belong to the developers, but the use of licenses exposes them to claims by the rights holders. As for engine use of Dreams for other productions, the studio has set up a case-by-case management, after studying a file. Many artists have expressed their wish to use Dreams, but it is in the cinema that we will soon find the creative game. Indeed, Dreams, or rather its engine, will be used in production from A Winter’s Journey, directed by Alex Helfrecht. The announcement was made recently by the studio itself, who seems very excited by this prospect:

Adapted from the poem Winterreise, the film has been in the pipeline for a long time, but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Filming should begin in June in Wrocław, Poland, a filming which will unfortunately take place without Gaspard Ulliel, who was to play the title role, but who recently died after a skiing accident. However, there will be Charles Berling, John Malkovich, Martina Gedeck and Gabriella Moran. Narrating the adventures of a 19th century poet, banished and braving the winter, A Winter’s Journey is supported by Sony Pictures and playstation, who will ensure the link between Dreams and the production of the film.
We’ve never seen a project quite like A Winter’s Journey, which promises to marry world-class filmmaking and extraordinary painting techniques with one of the greatest song cycles in music history. Viewers will happily embrace this unique theatrical experience, Sony says.
