To understand this new Internet reference, we must look at the history of Dune 2. After being the victim of a violent attack which decimated all of his people, Paul Atreides joined the Fremen, the population of the desert planet of Arrakis. These people, for a long time under the yoke of the empire because of the exploitation of the Spice, are waiting for the Messiah who will come to save them. Called Lisan Al-Gaib, this savior is in all the prayers of the most religious Fremen. Among them, one of the leaders named Stilgar and played by Javier Bardem firmly believes in the legend of the liberating Messiah. So when all the signs show that Paul Atreides has what it takes to be the chosen one, Stilgar can’t help but say it out loud. As a result, with each action of the character played by Timothée Chalamet, Bardem exclaims: “The Lisan Al-Gaib”.
