news culture House of the Dragon: We know more about a character from the Game of Thrones prequel

House of the Dragon, a prequel series to Game of Thrones, is gradually being revealed before its release this year. We know more about the character of Prince Daemon.

The famous actor Matt Smith, which you have seen in The Crown, will embody the Prince Daemon in House of the Dragon. He reveals a bit of his character in an interview for TV Guide Magazine, reported by the site TV Insider.

dark and disturbed

Those familiar with the world of George RR Martin know who is Daemon Targaryen. Prince Vaurien, as he was called, husband (and uncle) of Rhaenyra Targaryen, considered the most dangerous man in westeros at the time of the Dance of the Dragons. In House of the Dragon, he will be one of the main characters. Matt Smith describes him as “dark and disturbed”. As for his mount, the caraxes dragon, he affirms: “it is the most angry of all dragons. He’s a real bad-tempered bastard“.

The House and the Dance of the Dragons

200 years ago the events of Game of Thrones, the kingdom of Westeros is ruled by the Targaryens, in this case by Viserys I, fifth king of the Seven Kingdoms. His daughter Rhaenyra, a dragonrider (person who rides dragons), married her brother Daemon. Being a woman, she cannot inherit the Iron Throne. Next in line is Daemon. Whereas the battle begins to determine the succession of Viserys, a civil war breaks out: the Dragon Dance. She opposes two branches of the Targaryens. It is in this context that the plot of House of the Dragon unfolds, in ten episodes. We already know a good part of the cast:

House of the Dragon, relevant?

The opinion of the elders, the actors of Game of Thrones, diverge on the series. Some are very enthusiastic, others too emotionally attached to their work on Game of Thrones to appreciate, and some question the relevance of this show. Fortunately, the creator George RR Martin seems satisfied. He had the opportunity to see the pilot directed by Miguel Sapochnik, one of the showrunners of the series. Some statements below from the author and some actors (these statements come from various sources, reported and translated by AlloCiné). :

Well, I’m not objective. And I know a lot of the things you’re going to see. Also… motus and tight mouth, don’t tell anyone… I saw a rough cut of the first episode. And I loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral…just the way I love my epic fantasy.

George RR Martin

It’s just unavoidable. I wish them all the best, we’ll see what happens, but of course they do other series. You can’t create something this big without people saying, “What? What else? That’s really cool! Let’s do lots more!” And Miguel Sapochnik, I love him. I have no doubt it will be a huge hit, because he’s just genius.

Emilia Clarke, interpreter of Daenerys Targaryen

I found that incredible. Matt Smith wears this white wig so well. I was just waiting for Emilia Clarke to show up since this is the world of the Targaryens. I can’t wait to watch the series.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, interpreter of Jaime Lannister

I think seeing people wearing outfits and costumes that look like what we’ve been wearing all these years, with the same music and the same style and the same tone, but without taking part in it, there is a form of brutality in it.

Kit Harrington, interpreter of Jon Snow

I think the trick is not to try to recreate Game of Thrones. If you try to recreate it, it will only be a vulgar scam. That’s the problem with sequels, they’re made for financial reasons so they are not as strong. Corn I’m excited to watch House of the Dragon, only as a viewer, not knowing what will happen next.

Peter Dinklage, interpreter of Tyron Lannister

House of the Dragon will air in 2022 on HBO.
