Our colleagues at Allociné echo an anecdote which quickly made the rounds on the Web. It was during an interview with W Magazine that Kit Harington, the actor who plays Jon Snow in the series Game of Thrones, explained that he had an altercation that went wrong the day before his audition to land a role in the famous series. The actor took a right hand which left him with a pretty black eye. He thought his chances of getting the role would be zero, and yet he managed to nail it as Jon Snow.
“I had a black eye. I had fought the night before. ‘I had a fight with this guy at McDonald’s. I went to McDonald’s with a girl I was dating at the time, it was late at night and there were no seats” explains Kit Harington. The couple then sits next to another couple. Unfortunately, events quickly deteriorate. “We sat down and pretty soon he started being very rude to the girl I was with. He started insulting her, and we were like, ‘We’re just going to finish our food, we don’t want any trouble.’ But the guy called her a naughty little pig or something. I stood up and said: ‘no, you can’t insult him like that, get up’ which I had never done before”. What Kit Harington didn’t see was that the person he invited to fight was much bigger than him. “‘I realized I had to throw the first punch or I would look like a wimp. And I got beaten up. I went to the Jon Snow audition with a black eye and I think the man who punched me in the face may have helped me get the role. So if you watch this, thank you!” he laughs.

I am not a hero
The rest, we know it. Kit Harington landed the role that would change his life from 2011 to 2019. We have since seen him in several films, including some blockbusters, but we must recognize that he is relatively discreet. In an interview with The Times, he explained that he encountered a lot of problems because of the heroic image of Jon Snow that the public liked, and of which he did not feel worthy. “People treated me like I was the character, who was good and a hero. But in my private life, I am light years away from feeling that way. (…) Disappointment could be seen on people’s faces the minute I started speaking“. This year, the actor will make his comeback, but through theater and not cinema, by appearing in Slave Play, a play written by Jeremy O. Harris.
