A cross-over between Jujustsu Kaisen and Naruto could seem impossible in 2024 on our screens. And yet, a fan has achieved the unachievable by creating a video that spans both worlds.
Two mangas, two masterpieces
Naruto is undoubtedly one of the most influential manga of the last 20 years, alongside Bleach and of One Piecetogether forming what is called the Big Three. The work of Masashi Kishimoto has been able to cross the ages with Naruto Shippudena direct sequel to the manga, as well as with good generational continuity with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, set years after the conclusion of Shippuden and featuring the adventures of Naruto’s son.
With more than 250 million copies sold in 2022, this successful manga ended in 2014 after 72 volumes, thus paving the way for promising new stories.
Works such as My Hero Academia, The attack of the Titans or Demon Slayer have clearly lived up to their predecessors and have all met with great success both in Japan and internationally. However, another title particularly attracted attention last year, notably thanks to its animated adaptation: Jujutsu Kaisen.
Created by Gege Akutami And Ballad Kitaguni, this supernatural action manga was a great success thanks to its artistic style and its storytelling, but what propelled it even further was its animated adaptation produced by the Mappa studio. A real revelation at the start of 2020, the animation studio has built a solid reputation thanks to its masterpieces such as the latest seasons of Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen. The first season was released in October 2020 and surprised everyone with its absolutely sublime production and animation. The success was so dazzling that sales of the manga exploded with more than 8.5 million copies sold in 2023 in Japan. The anime adaptation also spawned a film and a second season, adapting the Shibuya drama arc.
The work was such a tidal wave that it even entered the Guinness Book of Records by becoming the most requested animated series in the world. The animated adaptation is also available on the simulcast platform Crunchyroll.
A quality crossover
Originally published on YouTube, the video featuring the crossover between Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen has already accumulated 20,000 views in 3 days, a rare feat for this type of production. We are immediately thrown into the action with Kakashi saving our dear and beloved Nanami’s skin from Mahito. He is quickly joined by Sakura, who helps Kakashi confront the S-class scourge of hatred of humans.
This nearly 4-minute crossover is a series of fights, each more breathtaking than the last, thanks to a totally stunning insertion of Naruto characters.
The action reaches its climax by teasing the fight between Naruto Uzumaki and Sukuna, concluding with the use of Rikudo’s Hermit Mode technique by our favorite future Hokage against the King of Scourges.
