Culture news “Never seen before” Daredevil Born Again could shake up Marvel and even Disney+: the MCU is playing big with this Netflix transflash series

Before Disney launched its own streaming platform, it was Netflix that broadcast the first Marvel series. We were treated to Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. But the most popular was undoubtedly Daredevil.

We take the same ones and we start again.

In November 2013, Netflix signs partnership with Marvel Studios and ABC Studios. The goal is to develop four series featuring characters who do not appear (or hardly appear) in the MCU, and thus develop the transmedia strategy. Daredevil was not considered a character with enough stature to have his own film, so he was chosen for a series. Played by Charlie Cox, Matt Murdock is a real hit. It must be said that his character is not the smoothest, which gives rise to a rather dark and violent series. The success is such that the production rwill renew the series twicewhich therefore ended in 2018.

While we thought the story would end there, it only took one panel at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022 for the Internet to go wild. During the convention, Disney announces that Daredevil will be rebooted, but not just any old way. No question here of changing the characters: Charlie Cox to Return as Hell’s Kitchen’s Justiceand Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise his role as the colossal Wilson Fisk.

Developments, expectations: Daredevil Born Again has big ambitions

Titled Daredevil: Born Againthe series will arrive on Disney+ in 2025 and will include 18 episodes. According to Vincent D’Onofrio, a season 2 is already planned but, given the current state of the series, we will remain cautious on this subject. In any case, Daredevil: Born Again is a highly anticipated series and, whether it’s from Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio or programming director Brad Winderbaum, we have fun making the sauce rise.

Charlie Cox’s interpreter suggests that the Netflix series will not be shelved and that we will not act as if nothing happened, which does not exclude the fact that to integrate many new features. For his part, the program director declares that the characters have matured, and that the universe is no longer what it was:

Matt (Murdock) and Wilson (Fisk) have changed. Their characters are going to clash in a way that we’ve never seen before. It’s not just about trying to kill each other anymore. There’s a whole political game going on.

Daredevil Smoothed? No Way!

If you’re worried about a Daredevil series coming to Disney+ is accompanied by an asceptization of the character, rest assured. Everyone has been very clear about this: the brutality will still be there, and it should even go to the next level. Vincent D’Onofrio, again, said that we should not worry about this and that Daredevil: Born Again should well its darkness, accompanying the physical violence of psychological violence.

Brad Winderbaum, for his part, simply promises a a visceral show. This is in any case what he recently declared to our colleagues at Entertainment Weekly, specialists in cinema and television culture:

What I can tell you is that Daredevil Born Again has some of the most brutal action scenes we’ve ever put on screen. It’s not a horror movie, but it’s a powerful series with a lot of visceral action, to say the least.

From there to saying that Disney is trying to break its ultra-smooth image, there is only one step that we will not take for the moment. In any case, see you somewhere in March 2025 to see if the promises are kept.
