Best things must come to an end and the world of Japanese manga/animation is no exception. The coming months promise the conclusion of many successful works, whether it be One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen… or even My Hero Academia, whose author has announced that he still wants to take care of the conclusion.

My Hero Academia: an ending that refers more to the title?

There is still some added value in following your favorite manga in Japan, week by week. Each of them is published in a magazine with a chapter appearing in a weekly issue (although some are monthly). If magazines dedicate the majority of their columns to the chapters themselves, they often include cross-interviews or just words from the mangakas concerned. For the latest issue of Weekly Shounen Jump (a must have One Pieceof Boruto…), it was Kohei Horikoshi who came forward. The author of My Hero Academiaa very popular manga whose animated adaptation is currently underway with a seventh season, explains that, ultimately, he decided to postpone the end of the manga.

Writing conventions dictate that the conclusion of a story be short, but this isn’t the kind of manga that can end immediately after the fights end, so I’ll keep going for a bit. We return to the title.

It’s hard to know what he means by returning to the title. The theories are already going well: the fights are over, in other words the “Hero” part gives way to the “Academy” part. Enough to remind, all the same, that it is indeed the main character who is the narrator of his story and that the entire manga revolves around how UA became “his hero academy”.

A dragging ending

An epilogue which remains within sight since Kohei Horikoshi simply wants to heal his exit. However, it has been postponed for several months. Originally, the author had indicated in the publication of volume 38 that the next volume was synonymous with the curtain falling:

Next volume! The story will reach its final phase. It’s time to conclude many battles! Look forward to all this! -Kohei Horikoshi

The calculation is quickly done : My Hero Academia should then end around September 2023. However, we are in June 2024 and the conclusion does not yet seem quite within reach. The perfect opportunity to enjoy the animated adaptation, available on Crunchyroll, without knowing what the ending is.
