One Piece fans will have to be patient

Bad news for fans One Piece ! While the Egg Head Arc is dangerously approaching its conclusion, and that the stakes become more and more important with the arrival of Five Deans in their Zoan forms, readers will have to be patient before they can know the outcome of the story. Indeed, even if chapter 1111 will be released on March 24, 2024 in the next issue of Shounen Jumpthe manga will unfortunately be on break for the next three weeks. In other words, we will have to wait until April 21, 2024 to read chapter 1112.

And as if these three long weeks weren’t enough, another break is coming after the publication of chapter 1112, since it is the Golden Week in Japan, a period with 4 public holidays spread over 7 days. We will therefore have to be patient to find out what will happen to Luffy and his companions on Egg Head Island, which can be very frustrating, especially given the dose of adrenaline injected into each chapter of this arc. The tension is only growing, and it will soon reach its climax, so why take a break now?

Eiichiro Oda has his reasons

No official reason has been given for the three-week break, but some theories hold up pretty well. In case you didn’t know, Eiichiro Odathe author of One Piecewas a close friend of Akira Toriyamathe creator of Dragon Ball. The latter recently passed away following cancer, and Oda spoke on this subject the same day in a press release published on the Shonen Jump website :

A huge hole tears my heart. I’m drowned in sadness every time I think I’ll never see him again.

I have admired him since I was a child, and I distinctly remember the day he called me by my name for the first time. I remember that day when I was coming home and he called Kishimoto-san and me “friends.” I also remember our last conversation.

Taking over from an era where reading manga was considered a pointless waste of time, he forged an era where adults and children could read and enjoy manga. He showed us that manga could be exported all over the world. He looked like a hero moving forward with determination.

Its impact was not only limited to the manga industry, but also to creators in other industries, who were undoubtedly influenced by Dragon Ball as children. Its essence is comparable to a large tree whose branches extend towards the sky.

For mangakas of our generation, sharing the same stage as Toriyama and approaching the success of his work gave us a glimpse of the impact he left in the industry. It was intimidating, but the man behind it was such a laid back person. I was so happy to know him. And I think we all loved Toriyama-sensei like he was part of our family.

I would like to express all my respect and gratitude for the creative world that Toriyama-sensei leaves behind, and I pray from the bottom of my heart that he may rest in peace.
