You have surely seen advertising posters in the street or videos announcing its arrival in cinemas: Blue & Company, the film with Ryan Reynolds directed by John Krasinski, was released in May 2024 in cinemas. In this comedy mixing characters in computer-generated images and real shots, we follow Bea, a young girl who discovers that she can see her imaginary friends, but also those of others. His mission ? Try to reconnect as many people as possible with your forgotten imaginary friend. “An adventure you’ll have to believe to see” we hear. Having received mixed reviews from the press (49% on Rotten Tomatoes), the film is nevertheless appreciated by spectators who give it a rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is not uncommon to read that the film is particularly touching.

As for the casting, we find Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski (who also directs the film), Cailey Fleming and Fiona Shaw. Unfortunately, as charming as the actors in the feature film may be, Blue & Company has difficulty meeting its audience. As of this writing, the feature film has grossed just over $170 million at the worldwide box office. A figure which, at first glance, may seem very good. However, and as recalled Screenrant, with an estimated budget of 110 million dollars, Blue & Company is still far from being profitable since as a general rule, Hollywood films must bring in 2 to 2.5 times their budget for profits to be made.

A little Blu-ray for the road?

It now remains to be seen whether the film will succeed in establishing itself over the long term, and whether the other films starring Ryan Reynolds, such as Animal Friends and Deadpool & Wolverine, will manage to do well this summer.. For its part, Paramount Home Entertainment announced that the DVD/Blu-ray versions of Blue & Company will include more than 40 minutes of bonus content. We will find behind-the-scenes extracts, meetings with Steve Carrell and Phoebe Waller-Bridge who voice characters, a making-of on how we mix real actors and imaginary heroes as well as lots of information on the world of the film.
