Joseph Quinn, the real star of the last season of Stranger Things, is preparing to return to horror with a new film. Sensitive souls refrain, this project led by the author of American Psycho promises to be appalling.

Joseph Quinn’s new role

Since his sensational revelation in the last season of Stranger Things, Joseph Quinn is undoubtedly one of the actors to follow in Hollywood. Already announced to the casting of Without A Sound: day 1 And Gladiator 2the British actor has just recently been presented as one of the new stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he will play alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the next adaptation dedicated to the Fantastic Four.

But that’s not all. The actor is also set to play the lead role in a promising new horror film. Titled “Relapse“, this project should mark the debut of author Bret Easton Ellis as a director. A project that Variety is already presenting as “an intense horror film”.

A promising horror project

First film by Bret Easton Ellis, the author knows the world of cinema well while three of his books – American Psycho, Less than zero, The Laws of Attraction – have already been adapted for the screen. What’s more, the author has also signed several screenplays. The author, who often mixes different genres, tackles here with Relapse to full-on horror.

I grew up watching cult horror films from the 70s. I wrote “Lunar Park”, a horror novel, as a tribute to Stephen King. So it seems logical to me that my first film would be a horror film. There is a simplicity to Relapse that seems like the perfect form for my debut as a filmmaker: something direct and impactful.

Relapse tells the story of Matt Cullen, a young man who enters rehab after witnessing a gruesome death at a party. A few months later, he came out and decided to take control of his life by going to his parents in Los Angeles. But a strange apparition seems to haunt Matt little by little. Nicolas Rolland, co-producer of the film with French company SND, describes Relapse like a monster movie”with a tangible presence and cites in particular as references The Host, The Thing, Pan’s Labyrinthor Alien. A feature film which will also be “fun, rich and commercial and should appeal to a lot of people” according to Bret Easton Ellis. A project to follow closely, which should arrive in cinemas by next year.
