While the MCU is starting to get smaller and smaller, comic book fans are still waiting to see what the new DC Universe led by James Gunn will bring. Good news, you will soon get a glimpse of it with this original series which is coming to Max this year.
A new DC series is coming to Max
When we think of live-action adaptations of superhero universes, we often think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It must be said that the numerous films that make it up have nonetheless marked an entire period spanning more than a decade, and that even if they are now starting to run out of steam, they have still managed to establishing themselves as true leaders of the genre, well ahead of their competitors from DC. However, we must not forget that the superheroes of this other stable also have very strong popularity. Excellent news for those who prefer the universe of Superman, Batman and the others from the Justice League: a new DC series is arriving at the end of the year on the new SVOD Max service.
Be careful, don’t think that you will directly be able to see your favorite superheroes on screen since this new project is none other than Creature Commandosa animated series focused on the group of the same name, which is relatively unknown to the general public. The latter is made up mainly of monsters and is led by a certain Rick Flag. It is also composed of Eric Frankenstein, Lady Frankenstein, Dr. Nina Mazursky, Doctor Phosphorus, GI Robot And Weasel. If these names don’t mean anything to you, it’s normal that none of these characters are really very well known and that’s exactly what James Gunn (the new boss of the DC Universe) has accustomed us to with his film Suicide Squad for example. Moreover, Creature Commandos has another point in common with Suicide Squad: this group is also assembled by none other than Amanda Wallerwho will still be played by Viola Davis. The animated series will be available from December 2024 on Max, HBO’s SVOD service.
It will be directly connected to the new DC Universe

In order to prove Creature Commandos’ belonging to the DC Universe, James Gunn confirmed that some of the characters who appear in the series will also return in other projects like season 2 of Peacemaker, or even the next Superman film with David Corenswet. Of course, they will then be adapted into a live-action version, but they will be the same characters from the same universe.
