Glen Powell, currently starring in Hit Man on Netflix, shared some anecdotes about his former collaboration with Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, when he landed the role of Hangman. The man had first auditioned for the second main role, that of Rooster, which would ultimately be given to Miles Teller. “I got a call from Joe Kosinski saying I didn’t get it “, says Powell in the columns of GQ, he who was initially not interested but subsequently took over the role of the original Hangman, then known under the name of Slayer, who was, according to him, not a good pilot. Finally, knowing the unique opportunity, he will end up seizing the role. Cruise has since become a great mentor to the star.

From this relationship, Powell also brings out some funny anecdotes. Tom Cruise once played a nasty joke on him while they were filming Top Gun: Maverick together. The duo were reading some lines for reshoots at Pinewood Studios in London when Cruise decided to take them back in a helicopter before pretending to crash on dry land. In a recent interview with GQ, Powell told the story with these words:
“Tom says, ‘Oh no, oh no,’ and he starts dropping the helicopter over London.
I was there like, ‘Am I going to be the anonymous guy who dies with Tom in a smoking hole in the middle of London?’ »
Fortunately, it was just a joke, they reached their final destination safely. This isn’t the only joke made by the actor. Cruise also once sent him to a movie theater in Los Angeles to watch a movie he had put on for his friends. And while Powell expected to be among a crowd of people, he was actually the only spectator in an empty movie theater for six hours, watching Tom Cruise speak directly to the camera.
