But how does the Joker always stay one step ahead of Batman? After having complicated the life of the Dark Knight for more than 80 years, this comic tries to put an end to this mystery which obsesses all fans. Unfortunately, the response does not live up to their expectations.

Joker, the most cult supervillain in comics

At the moment, the Joker is making a lot of talk about him and for good reason, Joker: Folie à deux has just been released in cinemas. After the first film of the same name which was a hit in 2019, the same cannot be said of its sequel which is far from meeting the same success. However, one thing is certain, it is that the figure of the Joker continues to be one of the most popular in the superheroic landscape.

The cult Batman antagonist always fascinates, as much through his adaptations on the big screen, whether by Heath Ledger or Jack Nicholson, as on the small screen with his interpretation by Mark Hamill. This craze for the Joker, that of the comics, its basic material, has understood it well and that’s why the authors continue to surf on it. A few years ago, they even wanted to go further by answering THE question everyone is asking: but who really is the Joker?

But who really is the Joker?

A few years ago, we were treated to a major event in comics called Darkseid War. In the latter, we saw a name Batman sitting on the Mobius Chair, a sort of throne with incredible powers which allows you to travel through space-time as well as to benefit from Omniscience, that is to say -to know everything. So, for a time, Batman became the God Of Knowledge and one of the first questions he asks when he climbs into the chair is who the Joker really is. After a surprised reaction from him, it is only at the end of the arc that we are teased that there would actually be three Jokers and that’s why he’s always one step ahead of Batman.

From this major teaser, we were treated to a comic entitled Batman: Three Jokers which returns to it. Rather than making shocking revelations about the character, this adventure is above all an opportunity to take a look at the different iterations of the Joker, whether from the Golden Age, the Silver Age as well as the Modern Age.. Three facets of the Joker that could be described as the Clown, the Comic and the Criminal. In reality, we are interested here in the dynamic between Batman and his long-time antagonist, rather than trying to disrupt the lore of the character. Besides, it seems that the work lies outside the current canon and is completely autonomouswhich reinforces this idea. Unfortunately, despite a good start, the comic ended up disappointing fans of Batman and the Jokerwhich means that it did not make as much of an impression as the hype it initially generated.
