His performance in the new episode of Dune caused a sensation, both among critics and the public, who are full of praise for him.
Butler draws inspiration from the best
In an interview given to NME, Austin Butler opens up about his influences for his role as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnennephew and heir of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (played by Stellan Skarsgård) in Dune: Part Two. When asked about the actors who directly inspired his character, two names came up: Gary Oldman and Heath Ledger.
I have always been inspired by Gary Oldman in many of his roles, notably in Léon, True Romance, or The Fifth Element. And you know, we talked a lot about Heath Ledger and the feel for the game that he had. And like I said, it’s not specific things, but it’s a more general inspiration – Austin Butler (NME)

Introduced in a black and white scene in a fairly epic sequence, his character was widely acclaimed. By the actor’s own admission, the kissing scene with his uncle contains some hints of improvisationwhich give all the flavor of his playing, and betray his influences.

Austin Butler was also awarded a Golden Globe, a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Elvis Presley, in the Baz Lurhmann biopic. Thus, in the same interview, he and Timothée Chalamet, co-star of Dune 2 and future interpreter of Bob Dylan, admitted wanting create a cinematic universe shared between their two interpretations.
Austin Butler will soon star in City on Firedetective film by Don Winslow and in the horror film Eddington by Ari Aster, alongside Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, Luke Grimes and Pedro Pascal. It can also be found on the poster of The Bikeriderswith Tom Hardy, to be released on June 19.
