With the announcement of Akira Toriyama’s death at the end of last week, the Dragon Ball community now feels like an orphan. More than the enthusiasts of his work, it is also his future projects which have lost part of their DNA, even if they remain in good hands. Moreover, the mangaka had recently created a new illustration for the imminent launch of one of them.

Dragon Ball Daima isn’t the only project Akira Toriyama was working on

Murdered, the community Dragon Ball recently learned of the death of Akira Toriyama, famous designer and mangaka behind the adventures of Son Goku, illustrated (initially) between 1984 and 1995. Although he has reduced his work on side projects, such as Dragon Ball SuperAkira Toriyama has continued to be involved in the development of the manga, anime, films and much more ! Soon, posthumously, the unconditional fans of Dragon Ball will be able to discover a new adaptation, subtitled Daimawhich will take place between the final events of Dragon Ball and those of Dragon Ball Super.

Expected for next fall, this adaptation will introduce us to the new adventures of Son Goku who, like his companions, has returned to a child’s size. On this subject, we have just learned that it will indeed be a series broadcast on television, and not a web anime version. However, as we said, Akira Toriyama was involved in other projects going beyond Dragon Ball. In a few days, a new series adapted from one of Toriyama’s mangas will see the light of day, before a video game follows suit: the author published a new drawing for the occasion!

Although the announcement of Akira Toriyama’s death reached us on March 8, it dates back to March 1, 2024. It is also heartbreaking since he will not have the chance to enjoy the launch of the series adapted from his manga Sand Landpublished in 2000. In France, Disney+ subscribers will be able to follow this on the platform, starting March 20. It is therefore to promote this imminent release that the designer had prepared an illustrationshared by the official account of Dragon Ball on different social networks.

There is no doubt that we risk discovering previously unpublished drawings by Akira Toriyama in the coming months and years to come, but this visual remains one of the most recent sketches by the father of Dragon Ball. We mentioned it, but it won’t just be the series Sand Land since a video game in this universe will also be published in the coming weeks. On April 26, to be more precise, players will be able to enjoy this new adaptation where we play, in an action-RPG adventure, the prince of demons Beelzebub. Beyond the hand-to-hand combat phases, there will be passages aboard motorized vehicles that we can customize before going to destroy everything in the immense desert lands that the game offers. It’s coming explosive!
