If you usually watch your films in French, you obviously know his voice. Alain Dorval, iconic voice actor, died this morning on February 13, 2024.

Sylvester Stallone loses his voice

Sad day for the world of dubbing. This morning of Tuesday February 13, 2024, actor Alain Dorval died at the age of 77 following a long battle with cancer. It was his family who announced the news in a press release relayed by The Parisian a few hours ago. If his name doesn’t mean anything to you, you probably know his voice if you usually watch your films in French. Indeed, the actor was mainly known for his career as a voice actor, and more particularly for having lent his voice to the American actor Sylvester Stallone. It is therefore Alain Dorval that you heard through the characters of Rambo And Rocky Balboabut also Judge Dredd or Barney Ross In Expendables, Starhawk In Guardians of the Galaxy And King Shark In The Suicide Squad.

Obviously, as is often the case in the world of dubbing, Alain Dorval did not only lend his voice to Sylvester Stallone. It was also that of Nick Nolte in no less than 15 different films, that of Danny Aiello in 6 films and that of Robert Foxworth in the first four Transformers films. In addition, Alain Dorval has also played several characters in animated films such as Victor In Ratchet and Clank, Pat Hibulaire in many Mickey and Tiger in the various Fievel films.

Known for his dubbing work, but not only

In addition to being a prolific dubbing actor with a voice well known to the French, Alain Dorval had also distinguished himself in other areas of comedy. Lovers of theater knew him for example for his work in numerous pieces like The bladed weapon by Victor Haïm, The birth by Armand Gatti, Golden head by Paul Claudel, Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare or Lady Gingerbread by Neil Simon. It must be said that he trained at the Simon course as well as at the Paris Conservatory of Dramatic Art.

Finally, Alain Dorval was also a committed man. At the end of the 1980s, he denounced the working conditions of dubbing actors, which caused him to be sidelined by some film studios. This is why he did not dub Stallone in all his films and he was replaced by Richard Darbois and Michel Vigné until 2001. He was also married to the actress Dominique Dumont with whom he had a daughter, Aurore Bergé, currently Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination.
