Adelaide: Another victory for Teichmann in Australia
Jil Teichmann is in the second round of the second, very strong WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide. The 25-year-old world number 33 beat the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkowa (WTA 365) after qualifying in 1:39 hours 7: 5, 6: 4. Teichmann was enough against the French Open finalist from 2021, one break per round, which she managed to do at the end of the sentence. It was Pavlyuchenkova’s comeback after an eight-month hiatus due to a knee injury. Teichmann’s next opponent is the American Danielle Collins (WTA 14), who beat Karolina Pliskova in two sets. Collins reached the final at the Australian Open a year ago, which she lost to Ashleigh Barty, who has since retired.
Australian Open: Laaksonen survives the 1st qualifying hurdle
Henri Laaksonen (ATP 187) can still hope to participate in the main draw of the Australian Open. The 30-year-old from Schaffhausen got the better of the qualification tournament in the first round against the Italian Riccardo Bonadio (ATP 189) 6: 4, 6: 4. Alexander Ritschard (ATP 174) and Ylena In-Albon (WTA 126) fared less well. Both failed in Melbourne in the 1st of 3 qualifying rounds. The 28-year-old Ritschard had to bow to the up-and-coming Italian Matteo Arnaldi (ATP 134) 3: 6, 5: 7, the 23-year-old In-Albon remained 4: 6, 4: 6 to the Dutch Arianne Hartono (WTA 237 ) hang. On Tuesday, another 5 Swiss Tennis players will be in action in the first qualifying round.
