News in video: mother gives birth to baby in parking lot

Spectacular birth in a parking lot: In the video you can see how a mother could no longer make it to the hospital and how a very unusual delivery had to take place.

Childbirth is stressful enough when you are in bed in a hospital and surrounded by midwives and a team of doctors. Giving birth to your baby standing in a parking lot sounds like a real nightmare – but that's exactly what Susan Anderson from Florida had to do.

"I knew we wouldn't make it into the building anymore"

Anderson quickly realized when she was on her way to the birthing center with her husband that it was going to be very tight. Her daughter Julia clearly wanted to be born much faster than expected – during the trip, mother Susan noticed that it was not just about labor, but that her child would be born in a few minutes. "I just had one thought, I just wanted to make it to the birthing center and lie down in the tub there," Anderson told the Daily Mail. "But she had completely different ideas." In panic, Susan and her husband Joseph drove as fast as they could. They actually reached the birthplace – but it was already too late for the desired tub. "From the very first step, I noticed how her head was slowly coming out," Susan describes the dramatic moment.

"Nobody expected it to happen so quickly"

The decision had been made for mom and child: the child had to be born here and now in the parking lot. Fortunately, a midwife noticed the couple and rushed to them to help with the birth. And so the little Julia suddenly came into the world, right next to her parents' car, under the watchful eye of two police officers who had also rushed to the house and didn't really know what to do here. The video from a surveillance camera shows how fast the baby was in his mom's arms. Even Gelena Hinkley, director of the birthing center, was surprised by this speed: "Nobody expected that it would happen so quickly."

A spectacular start in life

Fortunately, despite the unusual circumstances, there were no complications at birth, and Susan and her little Julia are doing great. And one day she may look at these recordings of her birth in disbelief and be amazed at how dramatic her first moments in life really were.
