Even before the corona pandemic, retail had a tough time – the competition from the Internet was too great, and in many places the rents charged for the retail space were too high. The restrictions on the virus are now another factor that often makes it impossible for many businesses to remain profitable. The result: more and more shops in German city centers have to close.
Politics want to help
It is unlikely that this trend can be reversed. Nevertheless, the retailers are to be helped with various ideas to somehow get through the current crisis. But if you talk to the shopkeepers, you quickly run into big problems – but also lots of creative ideas on how to cope with the change.
