Even before the corona pandemic, retail had a tough time – the competition from the Internet was too great, and in many places the rents charged for the retail space were too high. The restrictions on the virus are now another factor that often makes it impossible for many businesses to remain profitable. The result: more and more shops in German city centers have to close.
