News video: "World's worst girlfriend" condemned

The "worst friend in the world" has ruined the life of an English woman by an elaborate fraud – see in the video what made her do it.

Who is the "worst friend in the world", please?

The Englishwoman Helen Dove can look forward to this dubious honor: she ruined the life of her close friend Kimberley Baker with a large-scale fraud.

What happened then?

The friendship actually started off really well: Helen and Kimberley met at a riding school and got along well straight away. When Kimberley casually mentioned that she wants nothing more than to be a professional advocate for children, Helen promptly said that she works in the state adoption agency – and maybe could stand up for them.

How nice.

Indeed. Helen helped Kimberley apply for a job that included finding adoptive children. The initiative took effect immediately, and Kimberley soon received a response from the authorities, which signaled interest.

A good start for Kimberley!

Of course, she was very happy – and gave everything in the weeks that followed. Several employees of the authority contacted her and conducted interviews by email.

By mail?

Yes, the personal appointment was canceled at short notice and was then made up for in writing. Apparently not unusual for this authority due to lack of time – especially since Kimberley's friend Helen personally vouched for the fact that the job applicant was a good candidate. And it actually worked: Kimberley got a contract for her dream job.

Madness!

Yes, she was understandably also very enthusiastic. She quit her old job immediately after 17 years and was looking forward to working with her good friend Helen.

The two were really good friends by now?

And how! Helen was even the bridesmaid at Kimberley's wedding.

I have a feeling the story doesn't end with this happy ending …

Unfortunately, no. Because after the contract, Kimberley's start in the new job dragged on – she was repeatedly put off that her first day would unfortunately be delayed. It went on like this for seven months – until Kimberley made a terrible discovery.

Oh no, I guess …

Yes, exactly: Helen invented everything, but really everything. The job had never existed; the emails with the agency's employees had all been written by herself. For the fraud, she invented 15 different personalities, wrote thousands of emails and forged numerous documents. Of course, she had never worked for the agency – every second of the friendship had been a lie.

Poor Kimberley!

It was offended. Not only had she lost her job and over six months of income – her friend's betrayal hit her more than anything. "She was my best friend," she told the Guardian. "I was with her around the clock. She traveled with us and often looked after the children – I had no reason to ever doubt her."

Why the hell did Helen allow herself such a cruel prank?

That's a good question – you can see in the video what justification your lawyer used to explain this elaborate deception!
