Next newcomer – “Rako” strengthens Oberwart

Another new player from the region! After Christoph Halper, SV Oberwart has bagged the next well-known transfer with a connection to South Burgenland. Former professional Stefan Rakowitz is coming!

After a few departures and a thinned-out squad, SV Oberwart is laying the next building block for a foundation of success. Stefan Rakowitz brings extreme experience and quality. The 34-year-old has 85 Bundesliga games (including for Hartberg and Wr. Neustadt) to his credit, scoring 10 goals. He also played 153 games in “Liga zwa” (including Wacker Innsbruck, most recently at Stripfing) – scoring 26 goals. And he is a kicker who is incredibly flexible, having probably played every position except goalkeeper. This variability and polyvalence will also do Oberwart’s game good.Rakowitz – who also had a six-month “desert adventure” in Oman with Bahla Club in 2022 – is making the step from the professional sector to the Eastern League and is expected to lead the SVO as a leading player. “He is a real asset to us. Rako also comes from the region, for example I played with him in the youth team. He knows a lot here and brings outstanding qualities. Above all, his dynamism and passion will enrich our offense. The transfer is once again top-notch as a whole and shows that we will continue on the path we have chosen,” says sporting director Peter Lehner happily. The Pinkafeld native will also meet old acquaintances – in addition to Lehner. He has already cheered for Hartberg in the Bundesliga with Lukas Ried. “Rako lives football, you can tell. He is willing to contribute all of his skills and his personality to make us better. And to play a cool season together,” says Lehner.
