“Next to a Villepin…”: Stéphane Séjourné has ringing ears

The appointment of Stéphane Séjourné as Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs has caused a lot of ink to flow. If some wondered about his relationship with the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, others made fun of his French mistakes, due to a disability about which he did not hesitate to speak out. However, the young minister has other reasons to have his ears ringing. In an article from Mthe magazine of Worlddated February 24, international relations specialist Pierre Lellouche delivers an uncompromising judgment: “Obviously, when you put a Stéphane Séjourné next to a Villepin, there is no photo…”

However, the former diplomatic advisor of Jacques Chirac cannot be considered an admirer of Dominique de Villepin : as our colleagues from the magazine du World, the two men have more often been rivals than allies. However, despite their differences, Pierre Lellouche has always recognized the professional qualities of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs – which, according to him, are sorely lacking in Stéphane Séjourné. “If you are a professional in diplomacy, it is normal that you dream of something else and that you think of Villepin”, he added again. An opinion not necessarily shared by Emmanuel Macron…

Macron also takes it for his rank

And Stéphane Séjourné must not have been the only one to have ringing ears. Indeed, Pierre Lellouche was just as critical of the President of the Republic, who took his position when the specialist in international relations explained that Villepin “benefits from the current great vacuum and Macron’s catastrophic record in international politics.” An uncompromising opinion, which will probably not be appreciated by the Head of State… But which reinforces the rumors claiming that Dominique de Villepin could return to the forefront.
