Trump faces defamation charges in January

While Trump is facing a possible prison sentence in a trial for leaking secrets, another court date is already in the house. Once again, the plaintiff is the victim of sexual abuse by ex-President E. Jean Carrol. She defends herself against Trump’s recent insults.
Former US President Donald Trump is said to be appearing in court just a few months before the presidential election in the United States in connection with another lawsuit for defamation brought by US author E. Jean Carroll. A federal judge in New York has tentatively set the trial to begin on January 15, 2024, according to an injunction.
Shortly after Trump was sentenced to millions in compensation for sexual abuse and defamation in May, the writer Carroll announced that she would again take legal action against ex-presidents. The reason for this was insults that Trump pronounced against Carroll on CNN the day after the verdict.
Winning claimant mocked as “crazy”.
A New York grand jury on May 9 found it proven that Trump had assaulted and sexually assaulted Carroll in a New York upscale department store in 1996. The jury also ordered the 77-year-old Trump to pay the 79-year-old a total of five million dollars (around 4.56 million euros) for defamation. Trump appealed the verdict.
The day after the verdict, Trump again denied Carroll’s account of the incident on CNN, accusing the author of it being a “made up story.” Trump also claimed he never met Carroll and called her a “crazy”. Trump, who is running for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election, also has to deal with courts in several other cases.
