“Mondo” Duplantis delivers a great air show again

He is and remains the most spectacular athlete of his time: Armand Duplantis pushes the world record in the pole vault a little higher again. The German champion is currently unlucky at the world record show.
Pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has increased his world record again. The 24-year-old Swede crossed 6.24 meters in Xiamen, China. The Olympic champion and world champion, who is only known as “Mondo”, improved the previous record by one centimeter. Duplantis achieved it on September 17th last year in Eugene, Oregon. He initially mastered 6.00 meters without any problems and then achieved the world record height straight away. Overall, it was his eighth world record.
“The indoor season wasn’t really what I thought it would be,” he said. “I felt like I was a bit of a mess, a bit sloppier than I would have liked,” announced the old and new world record holder, “so I think I brought a bit of the fire from the hall with me. ”
Much like pole vault legend Sergey Bubka in the 1980s and ’90s, Duplantis has chosen to raise the bar for all of his world records by at least an inch since his first in February 2020. For every new record he receives a bonus from the organizer. Bubka broke the outdoor world record 17 times and the indoor world record 18 times between 1984 and 1994 before the athletics world moved to a single world record combining the indoor and outdoor records.
German champion Bo Kanda Lita Baehre failed to make a valid attempt at the first Diamond League meeting of the Olympic season.
