Upopular singer, she is. Certainly. For at least two reasons: because many of those who are reading these lines may find themselves humming the melodies or refrains from his repertoire, but also and above all because we are not reaching sixty years of career if one is not, even a little bit, in the heart of the public.

Upopular singer, she is. Certainly. For at least two reasons: because many of those who are reading these lines may find themselves humming the melodies or refrains from his repertoire, but also and above all because we are not reaching sixty years of career if one is not, even a little bit, in the heart of the public.

Saturday January 29, Michèle Torr will be on the stage of the cabaret Le Mirage, in Mézos. A few days before her arrival in the Landes, the singer – who has sold 30 million albums – looks back on the difficult months that have just passed for the artistic community but also on her career and her privileged relationship with the public.

Artistic life has been battered for many months. How did you experience it?

With the feeling that the artists have been somewhat forgotten. For almost two years, we couldn’t do anything. And even then, it starts slowly. So, for my part, I took the opportunity to move forward on certain projects, in particular the release of a complete set of my songs which should take place around my birthday, on April 7th. Next year, I will celebrate my 60 years of career so I am planning a room in Paris. In another register, I also took the opportunity to do some work in my house, near Aix-en-Provence, and to spruce up my garden (laughs).

Still happy to be back on stage?

I missed it a lot. For me, it is an immense joy to find the public again. I have a special relationship with him. The configuration of the cabaret will perhaps allow me, I hope, to find myself closer to the spectators and to offer something more intimate than in a usual room.

To say that the public is part of my family is excessive, but there is still a bit of that. I like going to meet them, talk to them. I am very approachable and when I see a person who recognizes me, gives me a little smile, I easily go to them. My songs accompanied, here, a birth, there, a meeting… They are part of their life.

You participated in the Idol Tour a few years ago. This time, you are alone at the microphone. Where is your preference?

I think that all the artists will answer you that but when you have a singing tour, alone-on-stage, you have more time to settle down, to express yourself, to propose a story to the public. The “Tender Age” tour, I liked doing it, but you have to go fast, you only have the right to four or five songs, which means you have to seduce the public quickly. In Mézos, I could offer something more sedate, more intimate too.

“My songs accompanied, here, a birth, there, a meeting… They are part of their life”

Exactly, let’s talk about songs. I imagine that you will propose the most awaited songs by the public, right?

Obviously, there will be “Take me to dance tonight”, “My name is Michèle”, “I appeal to tenderness”, “A blue wave”, “Lui”, “Discomotion”… These are songs that everyone is waiting for. But I will have fun interpreting other repertoires. Piaf, Brel and even Félix Leclerc and more unexpected things, surprises too.

How do you view the song today?

The job has become harder. Everything changed. Today, the public zaps a lot and it is sometimes difficult for a singer or a singer to settle permanently. Especially since there are fewer variety shows than before. When we went to Guy Lux or Michel Drucker, we saw the next day sales increase. All this is no longer possible today. But there are, in the new generations, interesting artists that I really appreciate. Names such as Bénabar, Grand Corps Malade, Zaz or Nolwenn Leroy.

The concert at Le Mirage cabaret will take place on Saturday January 29, at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. Reservations on 05 40 25 15 32. Price: 38 euros.

30 million albums

Michèle Torr stepped on her first stage at 6 years old and had her first success at 16 years old. She has sold 30 million records, obtained 30 gold records, one platinum and she has recorded more than 450 songs. From her first successes at the time of “Salut lesmates”, to her first Olympia as a curtain raiser for Claude François, Michèle Torr also sang for Luxembourg, on the occasion of Eurovision 1966. A recognized artist, her career took a turn in the 70s where his repertoire evolves towards tender and romantic songs.
