Niantic (Pokémon GO) cancels several projects and lays off with a vengeance

While Pokémon Go remains the company’s goose, Niantic is going through a crisis situation and is separating from its workforce.

Niantic, publisher of Pokémon Go or Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, canceled no less than 4 internal projects and will separate from 8% of its workforce, i.e. between 85 and 90 employees. It is through an internal email intended for employees that John Hanke, the company’s CEO, explained that the company is going through a bad pass and that she will have to let go of some employees. We recently decided to stop production on some projects and reduce our workforce by approximately 8% to focus on our key priorities. We are grateful for the contributions of those leaving Niantic and support them through this difficult transition.

Among these canceled projects are a game from the Transformers license named Heavy Metal. another project by the name ofHamlet was planned in collaboration with punchdrunka collective also known for Sleep No More. Finally, two other projects which had the code name Blue Sky and Snowball were also canceled.
