Niantic’s Peridot: a game between Pokemon Go and Tamagotchi

The studio specializing in virtual reality games has announced a new game in augmented reality.

Given the success of Pokemon Go, which became a viral phenomenon when it was released, the Niantic studio has largely declined the concept by relying on other known licenses such as Pikmin, Harry Potter or even Transformers (coming soon).

Peridot will therefore be the publisher’s first license since its game Ingress, which served as the basis for the Lightsip platform and Pokemon Go. Combining the latter with the famous Tamagotchis, Peridot is a game that consists of taking care of magical creatures.

Save a species and make it thrive

The game is based on the Peridot, a species dormant for thousands of years that is awakening in the modern world. The player aims to take care of these creatures by feeding them, training them and playing with them.

Although the game is about saving the species, creatures (unlike Tamagotchis) cannot die from lack of care. Niantic preferred to value regular players rather than punish the most “casual”.

Each creature is unique and has its own DNA whose behavior during reproduction will be modeled on a realistic model. It will therefore be possible to cross species or make a strict genetic selection. Unlike real life, it will be possible to mix archetypes like the cheetah or the unicorn to create a new adorable little creature.

Like Pokemon Go, the game will promote outings and interactions with the real world, with the creatures being (in theory) able to recognize different surfaces like water, dirt, leaves, sand or grass in order to interact. differently with each of them.
