Niaouli essential oil: what are its benefits and how to use it? : Current Woman Le MAG

Niaouli is a tree native to New Caledonia and Australia, which also grows in Madagascar. The essential oil of niaouli, formerly called "gomenol", is obtained by distillation of the leaves of this plant. This essential oil has many health benefits: it has notably anti-infectious virtues, especially at the respiratory and gynecological level, but is also used as a venous tonic.

Niaouli essential oil has anti-infectious properties

Thanks to its anti-infectious properties, niaouli essential oil is indicated against respiratory tract infections, whether viral or bacterial. It thins the mucus and has expectorant power, which helps to fight against bronchitis, rhinitis, sinusitis or even the flu.

Niaouli essential oil is also an ally against gynecological infections such as genital herpes, papillomavirus infections and even candidiasis.

In case of viral gastroenteritis, niaouli essential oil can be effective because it helps cleanse the digestive system and prevents the virus responsible for the infection from replicating.

Niaouli essential oil: a good anti-bacterial

Niaouli essential oil is also an excellent anti-bacterial. It can therefore be used against golden staphylococci and streptococci, in particular those responsible for bacterial angina.

Niaouli essential oil, an ally for the skin

Niaouli essential oil can be used to fight dermatological infections, such as acne, furunculosis, eczema, chickenpox, psoriasis, herpes, yeast infections. And that's not all: it is even effective against mosquito bites! Thanks to its protective properties, niaouli essential oil can also protect the skin during radiotherapy sessions.

Niaouli essential oil: a venous tonic

Niaouli essential oil is an excellent venous tonic. It firms the skin tissues and helps fight venous insufficiency: this HE is therefore a major ally in the event of hemorrhoids or varicose veins.

How to properly use niaouli essential oil?

The essential oil of niaouli can be used internally, that is to say, orally, and externally, in other words by the skin and even in diffusion, olfaction and inhalation.

  • Niaouli essential oil: what use against infections?

In case of a respiratory infection, such as a cold, it is advisable to pour 3 to 5 drops of niaouli essential oil in a bowl of hot water and to inhale this mixture for 10 minutes. Warning: the water should not be too hot, so as not to burn the respiratory tract.

To multiply the effects of niaouli essential oil against infections, it is possible to use a synergy of anti-viral essential oils, by mixing 4 ml of niaouli HE, 4 ml of tea tree HE, 4 ml of HE of ravintsara and 60 ml of vegetable oil of apricot kernel or sesame for example. This mixture must then be placed in the palm of the hand, then applied in massage on the back, torso and arches once a day for seven days.

When used over a large area of the body such as the back or torso, niaouli essential oil should be diluted 20% in massage oil. But it can also be used pure when the areas concerned are smaller. In preventing influenza, niaouli essential oil can therefore be used in friction at the level of the arch of the foot or on the spine.

Niaouli essential oil can also be used orally for infections. To do this, drop two drops of this HE into a teaspoon of olive oil, almond puree or hazelnut puree, and consume this mixture three times a day for seven days.

  • Niaouli essential oil: what use against burns?

Patients on radiation therapy can mix niaouli essential oil in an apricot kernel vegetable oil, but always 20% diluted in a massage oil. To soothe burns, it is also possible to mix the essential oil of niaouli at 50% with a vegetable oil of rosehip for example. This mixture should then be applied in massage to the area to be treated three to four times a day until healing.

  • Niaouli essential oil: what use against aches?

The essential oil of niaouli is also effective against aches of influenza origin or due to sports. To relieve them, it is possible to mix 8 to 10 drops of this HE in a tablespoon of neutral vegetable oil, like Arnica vegetable oil, before massaging the painful areas.

Niaouli essential oil: are there any contraindications and side effects?

Niaouli essential oil is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women, children under three years of age. It is also not recommended for people allergic to one of its components, such as limonene or linalool, as well as people with epilepsy or children who have already had hyperthermic convulsions.
