Nice: carried away by the waters of the Paillon river, a young woman is saved in extremis in the open sea

The weather was stormy in Nice on Tuesday. Heavy rains fell on the Baie des Anges for a good part of the morning, suddenly raising the level of Paillon and making its flow very violent.

This Tuesday morning in Nice, around 10 a.m., a 19-year-old young woman was swept away by the Paillon, a coastal river which flows into the Mediterranean, indicates to the Figaro the departmental fire and rescue center (SDIS) of the Alpes-Maritimes, confirming information from France Blue Azure.

At the time of the events, the latter was with her husband and a friend, when she lost her footing at the edge of the river. She then vainly clung to a tarp, before being swept away by the rough waters. She then drifted for long minutes, passing under the Paillon promenade. This river, which crosses Nice, has been completely covered since the 1970s. Today on the Paillon, the green belt has been built, among other things.

In total darkness, the victim let himself float, without struggling, and ended up being thrown out of the tunnel at the mouth of the Paillon. Quickly, the SDIS operational center received several calls to report the presence of a person at sea.

The firefighters of the CIS Tour Rouge immediately took to the sea aboard their shuttle. The young woman was finally spotted 150 meters offshore, facing Centennial Beach. Conscious and in a state of shock, she was transported unharmed to the Pasteur 2 hospital center in Nice.
