nice surprises for the iPhones of today and yesterday

With iOS 17.2, Apple introduces (among other things) a new feature which should improve the zoom of its iPhone 15 Pro, while deploying support for the Qi2 standard for induction charging. Support that extends in parallel to the iPhone 13 and 14.

Something promised, something due. In September, Apple confirmed that the iPhone 15 would be the first smartphones on the market to benefit from Qi2 compatibility for induction charging. And indeed, we are almost there. As reported NotebookCheckthe firm recently launched the “release candidate» from iOS 17.2. This preview of the next iOS update does indeed bring support for the Qi2 standard on the iPhone 15, but not only that, since the iPhone 14 and 13 are also affected.

In a very concrete way, this new feature will soon allow iPhone 15, 14 and 13 users to charge their device at 15 W instead of 7.5 W if they have a Qi2 compatible wireless charger. Until now, you had to have a MagSafe charger (often expensive) to be able to claim 15W wireless charging on iPhone. By allowing its latest iPhones to manage Qi2 wireless charging, Apple is giving its users the choice to opt for less expensive solutions.

iOS 17.2, a busy update

Another advantage of the Qi2 standard is that it will gradually be supported by many Android smartphones. Households with iPhone users and Android smartphone users will therefore be able to use a single Qi2 wireless charger to charge their different devices.

Note that iOS 17.2 reserves two additional bonuses for iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max users. Firstly, spatial video recording. This function allows you to record 3D videos which can then be viewed on Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. We also learn that the telephoto lenses of the iPhone 15 Pro will benefit from faster focusing than before, again thanks to iOS 17.2.

iOS 17.2 will finally bring certain additional features and content, such as the Journal application and the possibility of using the Action button of the iPhone 15 Pro to initiate translation, but also new widgets for the Weather application (as well as a lunar calendar interactive), as well as Siri’s support for queries related to the Health application.
