Nicholas Evans is dead. The writer died at the age of 72. With “The Horse Whisperer” he created a worldwide bestseller.

The British author Nicholas Evans died on August 9th at the age of 72 after suffering a heart attack. This was confirmed by his longtime agent the US industry magazine “Deadline”. “He lived a full and happy life at his home on the banks of the River Dart in Devon,” the statement said. “He was loved dearly and is survived by his wife Charlotte and four children.”

Nicholas Evans was born in Bromsgrove, England, in 1950. He studied law at Oxford University and initially worked as a journalist for the “Evening Chronicle” in Newcastle. He later worked in television, producing programs on US politics and the Middle East, and documentaries on artists. Evans made a name for himself worldwide as a writer in the 1990s.

Adaptation of the novel starring Scarlett Johansson

With “Der Pferdeflüsterer” (originally: “The Horse Whisperer”) he created a bestseller that sold a total of 15 million copies and was translated into 40 languages. Robert Redford (85) filmed the novel in 1998 and played the eponymous leading role alongside Kristin Scott Thomas (62) and Scarlett Johansson (37). Evans then wrote other bestselling books such as “In the Wolf’s Circle”, “Firejumper” or “The Ones We Love Most”.
