Nickel is now approaching the bar of 3 million open accounts

In France, the account without a bank accessible from a tobacconist continues to grow. Today, just under 3 million accounts are open.

At the beginning of November, BNP Paribas bank published its results for the third quarter. Net profit reached 2.76 billion euros, up 10.3% over one year. Since the beginning of the year, the banking group has earned no less than 8.04 billion euros in profit. The bank could even do at least as well as in 2021, a record year with a net profit of 9.5 billion euros.

Nickel continues its development

Among its many activities, Nickel does not know the crisis either. The famous bankless account continues to develop. It is accessible from a network of partner tobacconists for 20 euros per year. Today there are no less than 2.8million accounts opened in France. Already present in Spain, the payment account was rolled out in Belgium and Portugal in September. Nickel is aiming for 300,000 account openings in Belgium and 450,000 in Portugal within five years.

4million customers in 2024

Launched in February 2014, Nickel was acquired by BNP Paribas in April 2017. Nickel is targeting 4 million customers in 2024. The BNP Paribas subsidiary had reached the 2.5 million mark in early April. The threshold of 2.5 million accounts opened is important for Nickel because it confirms that the strategic choices made in 2019 were within our reach despite their ambition. We have every reason to be optimistic, although our market is particularly competitive. This reinforces our belief that our model and our value proposition are the right ones, declared Marie Degrand-Guillaud, Deputy CEO of Nickel.
