Nico Hofmann is considered one of the largest film producers in Germany. He is now giving up his position in the UFA management.

While other people his age are preparing for retirement, star producer Nico Hofmann (64) is once again casually opening the next chapter of his long career as a film and television producer. As the Babelsberg film company UFA announced today, after more than 25 years under the umbrella of the traditional company, Hofmann will finally retire and work as an independent producer again in the future.

With teamWorx since 1998 under the UFA umbrella

The charismatic filmmaker has been closely associated with UFA since 1998. This year, together with other colleagues, he founded the company teamWorx Television & Film, a subsidiary of Bertelsmann’s UFA Film and TV Production. teamWorx produced a variety of television formats for public and private television broadcasters in Germany until the Filmschmiede was merged with the UFA subsidiaries Phoenix Film and UFA Fernsehenproduktionen to form the new company UFA Fiction in 2013 as part of a restructuring of UFA. The best-known teamWorx productions included the escape from the Republic thriller “The Tunnel” and the television films “Dance with the Devil” and “End of the Season,” which won numerous awards.

In recent years, Hofmann has also been responsible for some of the most successful films and series of the last two decades such as “Our Mothers, Our Fathers”, “Deutschland 83” and “Ku’damm 56/59”. From 2017 to September 2023 he led UFA as CEO; most recently he held the position of “Chairman” at the company, which he will now resign from on February 29, according to the announcement.

“I’m starting all over again”

The “Bild” newspaper said the star producer about his decision: “I’m starting all over again. This is very exciting for me after almost four decades in the film business. But I’m returning to my roots and to my great passion: filmmaking. In the In recent years, in my role as CEO of Ufa, I often didn’t have enough time to be really creative. I’m going to change that now – and I’m really looking forward to it.”
