PARIS (Reuters) – Nicolas Sarkozy was indicted on Friday for “concealment of witness tampering” in the case of the retraction of the Franco-Lebanese businessman Ziad Takieddine who accused the former president of having resorted to Libyan financing for his 2007 presidential campaign, according to BFMTV.

Nicolas Sarkozy is also indicted for “criminal association with a view to committing judgment fraud by an organized gang”, reported BFMTV, citing judicial sources.

The former head of state was also placed under the status of assisted witness for “criminal conspiracy with a view to committing the offense of active corruption”, according to the media.

Justice considers that Nicolas Sarkozy is involved in maneuvers carried out by several protagonists in order to exonerate him in the affair of Libyan financing for his 2007 presidential campaign, for which he will be judged in 2025.

In 2020, Ziad Takieddine, the main prosecution witness in this case, withdrew his accusations against Nicolas Sarkozy.

In another case also linked to the financing of his 2007 electoral campaign, known as “tapping”, Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced last May by the Paris Court of Appeal to three years in prison, including one year for corruption and Bribery.
