A selection of horror must-haves for PIFFF 2022

For its 11th edition, the PIFFF will once again be held in the heart of Paris and can count on the support of FILMO. A special correspondent will also be present at the festival. Demoiselles d’Horreur, a videographer specializing in horror films and the place given to women in them, will cover the event on social networks.

On the occasion of this new edition, FILMO, official partner of the PIFFF, thought of its subscribers. Throughout the duration of the festival, must-see films from previous editions will be available on the platform. The opportunity to shiver one last time this year before giving way to the magic of Christmas!

Classics of the genre, gory nuggets, disturbing UFOs… Overview of this fantastic selection.

BONUSES

The Body

The corpse of a powerful businesswoman disappears from the morgue in the middle of the night. The inspector in charge of solving this investigation discovers many elements that overwhelm the victim’s widower… He then becomes suspect number 1, but, little by little, the policeman realizes that the truth could be more complex than she doesn’t seem there.

Oriol Paulo’s first feature film (The Accused and Mirage), The Body won the Grand Prix at the 2012 PIFFF. Ten years later, the film has not aged a bit since its suspense remains breathless and the character of Belén Rueda (appreciated by fans of Hispanic horror for The Orphanage and The Eyes of Julia) still as mysterious…

Why don’t you just die

Change of register with gore (but hilarious!) Why don’t you just die. Lovers of hemoglobin know that it often mixes well with comedy, and the PIFFF jury seems to agree: in 2013, it awarded the Golden Eye to this completely barred film by Kirill Sokolov.

Hammer in hand, Matvey is determined to avenge his girlfriend for her father’s mistreatment. But this one, a rather beefy cop, is not going to let it go. As the two men tear themselves apart in the family apartment, they are joined by other protagonists ready to do battle.

Cheap Thrills

Even more gore, funny… and award-winning, Cheap Thrills won the Golden Eye and the PIFFF Audience Award in 2013.

The story is that of a young father in debt, just fired and threatened with expulsion, who sees his life turned upside down by a strange offer: a wealthy couple offers him a solution to all his problems. But at what cost ?

Boustifaille (exclusively on FILMO)

Karim suffers from not being introduced to the family of his girlfriend, Daphnée. As she goes to her parents, the young man decides to force fate by hiding in the trunk of his car…

Short film by Frenchman Pierre Mazingarbe, winner of a Jury Prize in 2019, Boustifaille is available exclusively on FILMO. This gore farce, spiced up with acerbic social criticism, gives the film a deliciously spicy flavor. An 18-minute dessert, ideal to start your horrifying evening!

THE ESSENTIAL CLASSICS

In addition to these award-winning nuggets, the platform invites you to rediscover for the occasion the greatest classics of the genre, to shiver without moderation!

Night Call

Lou is a shameless paparazzi who resells his shocking images to local TV channels. His secret? He tunes into police radio frequencies to find out all about the nocturnal horrors of Los Angeles. But does his race for the spectacular have a limit?

Launched on the same road as Drive, Night Call is carried by the invested interpretation of Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed as much as by the nervous and impassive camera of Dan Gilroy. Against a background of criticism of voyeurism and careerism, Night Call promises you a nocturnal trip that will leave you breathless.

Mayhem (exclusively on FILMO)

Derek, an employee in a multinational, learns of his dismissal when his company is placed in quarantine. An extremely contagious and dangerous virus, altering the personality of those who contract it, has indeed been detected in the building. While his colleagues lose control and clash in a vast bloodbath, he tries, with the help of a collaborator, to find a way out…

Steven Yeun is definitely subscribed to pandemics. After the zombies of The Walking Dead, the actor is now confronted with his infected colleagues in this story of revenge, in competition at the Gérardmer Festival. Fortunately, he can count on the help of Melanie (Samara Weaving from Nine Perfect Strangers) to lend him a hand!

Don’t cut!

You may have seen and enjoyed Coupez!, the latest film by Michel Hazanavicius (OSS 117, The Artist). But did you know that this deliciously metafilmic French comedy was the remake of an equally crazy Japanese film?

Well-rewarded, Don’t Cut! is the work of Shin’ichiro Ueda, which tells the story of the chaotic filming of a Z series short film. But when real zombies appear and attack the actors, the film becomes larger than life…

The Bride with White Hair (exclusively on FILMO)

Lian, who was raised by wolves, is now a feared witch. But when she finds herself face to face with a young warrior from the enemy clan, she cannot fight against the love that begins to win her over.

Available exclusively on FILMO, The Bride with White Hair revisits the impossible love of Romeo and Juliet in a sublime restored version loaded with references to Hong Kong cinema.

Ebola Syndrome

Another Hong Kong production, another virus story, but still just as cult and impressive, Ebola Syndrome is the story of Sam. A catering employee, he returns to China after a trip to South Africa. When an Ebola epidemic hits the city, he realizes that he is the cause…

A unique and extraordinary cinema experience, absolutely disturbing. Sensitive souls refrain !

Battle Royale

You necessarily know the concept of the Battle Royale, from which the Hunger Games saga is particularly inspired. Quentin Tarantino’s favorite film, Battle Royale is the work of Kinji Fukasaku. And the least we can say is that it deserves its cult film status!

In the near future, an upsurge in acts of youth violence pushes the authorities to take a radical decision: each year, a class chosen at random will be sent to a desert island to kill each other. Who will emerge victorious and be awarded the right to survive?

Many other UFOs await you on FILMO for the PIFFF: Demons (scripted by Dario Argento), Replicas, The Wave… These treasures, sometimes overlooked, are just waiting for you to be discovered! But will you have the courage to dive into the unfathomable abyss of fear and the strange?
