Nintendo announces a surprise buyout, it looks good for the Switch 2

The world of video games also involves purchases and sales, necessary for the good financial health of certain studios and large publishers. Nintendo is no exception to this rule.

In recent years, we have witnessed a wave of takeovers, which can sometimes place large groups in delicate situations, as was the case with Embracer, which has become an insatiable juggernaut in a short time. His voracious appetite eventually led him into financial difficulties, even bordering on implosion. And it is precisely at this moment that the giant Nintendo enters the scene in this story.

Nintendo and the ball of redemptions

Thus, on May 20, 2024, Nintendo announced the signing of an agreement with the Embracer group for the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Shiver Entertainment, a video game development studio based in Miami. This operation aims to strengthen Nintendo’s capabilities in terms of porting and developing large-scale titles. Established in 2012, Shiver Entertainment has quickly made a name for itself in the video game industry by collaborating with various publishers and developers on high-profile projects. The studio is particularly known for its work on popular titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1. Its skills extend across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, making it a strategic partner for Nintendo.

A beautiful redemption

A valuable addition for the editor

According to the press release, “Shiver is a video game development company that develops software for multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Since its founding in 2012, Shiver has collaborated with publishers and developers on high-profile projects, and recently, it has worked on porting and developing titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1.

Nintendo clarified that Shiver will become a 100%-owned subsidiary, allowing the Japanese company to benefit from the experience and skills of the Shiver development team. “By welcoming the experienced and accomplished Shiver team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for software porting and development,” adds the press release.

Even after its integration into the Big N group, Shiver Entertainment will continue to focus on its current missions, namely the porting and development of software for various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. This continuity will ensure that Shiver can maintain its quality of service while benefiting from Nintendo’s resources and support. Perfect for Switch 2.
