Nintendo Direct: Big N resonates with nostalgia and marks the return of the Game Boy and the Game Boy Advance

The Nintendo Direct which took place yesterday will undoubtedly have left fans of new games unsatisfied. Indeed, if the Japanese has indeed shown some images of rare totally original games so far (like DecaPolicethe very attractive WHITE or Harmony: The Fall of Reverie), the rest of the conference did not really leave room for novelty. Indeed, it revolved a lot around a suite of well-installed licenses (Pikmin 4 And Splatoon 3, Professor Layton and The New World of Steam have been announced), back from “old” but cult licenses (Samba de Amigo: Party Central) and DLC (get ready for biomes Castlevania In Dead Cells which you can explore from March 6) and remasters, lots of remasters.

Yes, well, we knew it…

Even if these had been announced well in advance, the fact remains that Nintendo took very little risk by announcing the reboots of Ghost Trick (released for Nintendo DS in 2010),Etrian Odyssey (Etrian Odyssey: Origins Collection scheduled for June 1) and the best known Tales of Symphonia And We Love Katamary enhanced with a hint of novelty with the extension Royal Reverie. That’s already a lot but that’s not all since Shinya Takahashi also announced the remakes of the first two games of the license Advance Wars (Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp released on April 21), of the two episodes (also) of the franchise-which-few-have-played-but-who-can-not-speak-good Baten Kaitos and, finally, of Metroid Prime who had made the heyday of the GameCube exactly 20 years ago and of your favorite columnist who will of course dive back from March 3 in Metroid Prime Remastered.

The return of the Game Boy and the Game Boy Advance

Your thirst for retro-gaming is not yet quenched? If you are a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber, you can now find the legendary Game Boy (yes, we say UN Game Boy) and its monochrome screen in shades of green; note that Game Boy Pocket – more gray – and Game Boy Color – more variegated – rendering modes are planned. For the moment the catalog is a bit starving but Nintendo’s greatest heroes are already there: Mario (in Super Mario Land 2 – 6 Golden Coins), Link (in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX) or even Samus Aran (Metroid II – Return of Samus).
