In recent hours, the price of home consoles has become a real issue. If Microsoft and Sony have already mentioned their strategy on this subject, Nintendo has remained silent until now… But that has just changed.
The week will have been marked by this famous announcement from PlayStation which has chosen to apply an increase of 50 euros to the price of its PS5. The Japanese manufacturer blames the very high inflation rates as well as the global economic situation to explain its decision. While for its part, Microsoft has decided not to upset its plans since the Xbox Series X and S will keep their usual price.
No changes to be expected at Mario
Asked by Eurogamer on this thorny subject, Nintendo has also mentioned that it has no intention of revising its prices upwards. The Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED should therefore not be sold more expensive in the near future.
While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently have no plans regarding the pricing of our consoles due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country. We will determine our future pricing strategies through careful and ongoing deliberation.
So Nintendo is following the same path as Microsoft, and PlayStation seems increasingly isolated. The increase in the price of the PS5 could be difficult to assume during the holiday season. But before that, Sony also needs to sort out its supply issues. The next few months promise to be complicated for the manufacturer.
