A Nintendo Switch 2 will probably not appear as early as industry experts and fans had hoped. By the end of the current fiscal year, i.e. March 31, 2024, Nintendo wants to have sold 15 million consoles and Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa expresses possible doubts about achieving the goal.

The decisive factor here is that Furukawa expressly does not include new or updated hardware in this forecast, reports Videogameschronicle with reference to a report by Bloomberg.

Officially, this is of course a dampener in view of recent rumors of a Switch 2 announcement in June and hints in September. It’s also meant as a rejection of an upcoming Switch Pro, which could be an upgraded version of the current console model.

So it really could be that Nintendo still doesn’t introduce a new console and tries to keep making money with the currently available Switch models.

The release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which will be released in May 2023, could help with this. Even the predecessor Breath of the Wild was a million hit.
