  • An interesting PDF was published in connection with the acquisition of Activision by Microsoft.
  • At one point, where the Nintendo service Switch Online is discussed, a word is critically censored.
  • The name of the Nintendo Switch 2 may have been removed here later.

There are already numerous rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2. Hardly surprising, after all, the mobile console has been on the market since 2017 (apart from the Switch OLED and Switch Lite) and is slowly but surely gathering dust. Information about the successor has now apparently been leaked by a British authority.

As the US magazine Ars Technica reports, it is about a PDF document from the British competition authority (CMA) that is related to the planned Microsoft Activision deal. This is about Nintendo services that could potentially compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. Here’s the thing: One line reads that Nintendo Switch Online services are only available on Nintendo Switch and XXX.

"...only available on the Nintendo Switch device and ....????"

Particularly interesting for fans of the game console: As the name suggests, Switch Online services are currently only available on the Switch. So the censored spot after the “and” almost certainly points to a new device yet to be introduced that is also compatible with Nintendo’s Switch Online services.

Nevertheless, many questions remain unanswered, such as the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. It is also possible that it is a Nintendo Switch Pro or that the Japanese manufacturer is planning to expand its services to smartphones. Some good news related to the Nintendo Switch that you can take at face value right now: Microsoft and Nintendo have signed a major Call of Duty deal.
