There Nintendo Switch 2 could be announced next month, according to a generally well-informed insider. The future Big N console should also benefit from improved backward compatibility.

This year 2024 should logically mark the arrival on the market of a new console made by Nintendo. Although the Nintendo Switch continues to perform well on the cusp of its seventh anniversary, the time will soon come for the hybrid console to pass the torch. The latest rumors indicate that his successor will be made official in March.

In addition, the future console should allow players to take full advantage of their Nintendo Switch game library thanks to backward compatibility.

The future Nintendo console announced in March?

In recent months, rumors have been rife regarding the “Nintendo Switch 2”. If we do not yet know the official name of the future console, many elements allow us to assume that it should indeed show signs of life in 2024.

Recently, in an episode of the Game & Talk podcast, insider NateTheHate (who has been right on many occasions regarding Nintendo’s plans) claimed that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be revealed during the month of March. To support his remarks, the site Nintendo Universe added that many of Nintendo’s partners are currently preparing to announce their projects, and that there will be movement on the distribution side.

As a reminder, as part of a study conducted during GDC last month, developers confirmed that they were working on projects dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2. More recently, an analysis firm declared that Nintendo would consider shipping 10 million copies of its new machine for its first year of operation.

Switch games should get a boost on Nintendo Switch 2

The other rumor of the day concerns backwards compatibility. This time it comes to us from the Brazilian journalist PH, who affirms that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be fully backward compatible with Switch games, whether in physical format (cartridges) or in digital format (eShop).

Better yet, the titles would benefit from a better framerate and would benefit from visual improvements. Last summer, during a secret presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2, developers were able to preview an improved version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What gives credence to this rumor? Maybe…

Given the phenomenal success experienced by the Nintendo Switch since its release in March 2017, it would be surprising if the Kyoto company skipped backwards compatibility for its future console. However, we will of course have to wait for confirmation from Nintendo to find out once and for all. Let us hope that these many questions will be answered next month.
