Nintendo Switch: Controllers now compatible with Apple devices!

Apple recently unveiled its new update, called iOS 16, to developers.. The latter brings with it many features, including one that caught our attention. Indeed, thanks to this update, you will now be able to use your Switch controllers on your Apple devices!

Play Switch on Apple devices?

The discovery comes to us from a Twitter user by the name of Riles, a developer of various applications and creator of AltStore. The latter notably allows its users to manage their Apple applications, and includes Delta, a retro video game platform for mobile. Riles therefore quickly spotted the new feature, allowing him to Bluetooth link Nintendo Switch controllers to Apple devices.

Tweet translation: iOS16 can recognize Nintendo Switch Pro controllers! I can confirm that they work perfectly on Delta.

So it would seem that the new feature is optimal, and that it not only works with Nintendo Switch Pro controllers, but also with joy-cons. Under Riles’ tweet, Nat Brownthe engineering manager at Apple, commented:“Test it out. Let me know if you have any issues. With both joy-cons, hold the bottom buttons (left “screenshot”, right “home”) for a few seconds to combine the Joy Cons into one controller and do it again to separate them”.

Why ?

One can ask oneself, why did the Apple teams decide to create compatibility with Nintendo Switch controllers? First of all, this type of functionality is not a first. Xbox and PlayStation gamers enjoy compatibility on Android, or even Apple. It is thus possible for them to connect their wireless controller to their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac. For the sake of equality, Apple therefore simply wanted to make this feature accessible to Switch players.

In addition, the compatibility of joy-cons on Apple products opens up to developers a new world of possibilities. The particularity of these controllers being the recognition of movements, this could give many ideas to the creators of applications. Compatibility between Nintendo Switch controllers and Apple products will be available as soon as iOS16 arrives, the beta of which will arrive next month and the consumer version, shortly. One thing is certain, players and developers won’t be bored!

Mario Strikers Battle League Football is coming out this week and we invite you to come back to the license through a retrospective from its release on GameCube to its arrival on the Switch.
