RPGs are flourishing in the spring on Nintendo Switch alongside a rhythmic metroidvania and a frankly unexpected party game. Yes, fans of the Demon Slayer manga will soon be able to settle their scores using Joy-Con interposed in a board game inspired by the series… Enough to bring everyone together around the console.

Freedom Planet 2

Are the colorful heroines of the world of Avalice moving faster than Sonic in Freedom Planet 2? This sequel takes up the concept of the first part by adding new improved skills and still so many loops to chain together at dizzying speed. With a typically retro artistic direction, this platform and action title is justified by the appearance of a brand new threat which emerges from the bottom of the oceans. Two years after the end of the events of the first game, the three anthropomorphically designed vigilantes decide to join forces with a fourth warrior to prevent their new adversary from causing more victims.

The developer has taken care to include several game modes (Adventure, Classic), including a series of arena challenges allowing you to face bosses in the Battlesphere as well as additional comfort options to suit all audiences. The customization possibilities are more extensive than in the previous part in order to enrich the range of actions specific to each heroine. A guard button also spices up the fights to add a bit of technicality. Freedom Planet 2 was already available on PC but it is coming to consoles for the first time on April 4 and the Switch is no exception.

Planet of Lana

The intoxicating proposition of Planet of Lana will soon no longer be reserved for PC and Xbox players alone. From April 16, the game will also be exported to Sony (PS5, PS4) and Nintendo (Switch) consoles. Critically acclaimed, this lovely adventure tinged with mysteries to solve takes us to the discovery of a planet which does not resemble anything known.

But beyond its sometimes idyllic landscapes and its poetic accents, this world also knows how to prove ruthless, requiring constant caution. Will nature be able to triumph over the faceless army from the ends of the galaxy? Answer in Planet of Lana to be discovered on April 16 on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Tales of Kenzera: ZAU

Tales of Kenzera: ZAU follows in the wake of the recent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown to make its contribution to the metroidvania genre. Zau is the name of a young shaman who signed a blood pact with the God of Death. He then inherits cosmic powers supposed to allow him to venture as far as possible into mythological lands full of dangers. But Kenzera’s world is home to all kinds of vengeful spirits that won’t necessarily make her journey easier.

The game Tales of Kenzera: ZAU released simultaneously on Switch and on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. This is a single player experience which draws on African folklore, and in particular Bantu culture, to stand out from the competition by relying on rhythmic combat. Because our hero’s vocation is to become a spiritual healer and his powers are linked to sounds, life and death.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Yoshitaka Murayama, one of the creators of the saga Suikoden, left us just before the release of its spiritual heir Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. But fans will be able to pay tribute to him by playing this old school RPG from April 23. Highly anticipated by fans of the genre, this title represents in some way the rebirth of a saga that marked the golden age of Japanese role-playing games. We therefore believe a lot in its potential, especially since this project displays very real ambitions.

All the peoples of the Allraan world will be involved in a great epic fresco made up of wars and alliances between opposing races. Runic magic will of course have its say in allowing us to win battles with panache., alongside a hundred individuals carried away in the spiral of their destiny. If the bet is held, the lifespan of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes promises to be monstrous.

SaGa Emerald Beyond

The announced launch of SaGa Emerald Beyond on April 25 on PC, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch gives us the opportunity to reconnect with a series of RPGs that receive little publicity in the West. This new opus also respects the emblematic codes of the franchise by offering a multitude of scenarios both independent and interconnected. It will therefore be necessary to go through all of the narrative arcs to understand all the ins and outs of the plot.

However, it is impossible to describe what the game universe will look like as this title seems to want to demonstrate an astonishing diversity in terms of environments. Not less than 17 worlds will be explored via the Junction system which will invite us to make our own choices to unlock new branches. Beyond the visual change of scenery, SaGa Emerald Beyond will also digest all the influences to offer us a complex story which will evolve differently with each new game.

No surprise, in these conditions, to learn that the outcome of the adventure will come in a multitude of different endings. SaGa Emerald Beyond should therefore rely on interesting replayability, in addition to offering highly strategic turn-based combat. To triumph, you will not only have to resort to combined attacks, but also interrupt enemy attacks, vary your formations and call on support skills.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board!

The fighters of the saga Demon Slayer are preparing to take a break on April 26 to indulge in the joys of… party games. It’s not an April Fool’s joke and Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! is very similar to a board game based on the manga and the animated series. Unlike Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles which focused exclusively on combat, this time players will have to focus on cunning and skill if they want to achieve victory. In a crazy atmosphere, the game seems to multiply the references to the series through tests freely inspired by the most memorable passages from the work of Koyoharu Gotôge. Everything will be playable locally with 4 participants, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
