Mario Kart 9 is currently in development for Nintendo Switch. And it could even be officially unveiled as early as this year. No Nintendo emergency
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the best selling games in Nintendo history. Last I heard, 38.74 million copies have been sold. And it continues to regularly take the top spots on the charts around the world. Nintendo is therefore in no hurry to release its sequel.
In addition, Nintendo has never released two Mario Karts on the same console. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is not, however, a new episode per se. The Switch has not yet had its own episode of Mario Kart.
