Nintendo Switch: In development, Mario Kart 9 could be unveiled this year according to an analyst

Many players have discovered Mario Kart 8 with the release of the Deluxe version on Switch. The latter is nonetheless an improved version of Mario Kart 8 released in 2014 for Wii U. Next May, it will be 8 years since Nintendo released its last truly new Mario Kart. It is therefore possible to wonder when the sequel will arrive. And according to an industry figure, his announcement might not be too late.

Mario Kart 9 is currently in development for Nintendo Switch. And it could even be officially unveiled as early as this year. This was recently said by Dr. Serkan Toto, analyst for the Japanese firm Kantan Games. Asked by the GamesIndustry site about his predictions for 2022, the analyst mentioned Mario Kart 9:

I am aware that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell very well on Nintendo Switch. But Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and he comes up with a new idea). And Nintendo could teaser it this year.

A new twist for Mario Kart 9 on Switch?

Serkan Toto obviously knows things. But unfortunately for the curious and fans of Mario Kart, it does not say more about this 9th episode. It is therefore possible to wonder what he means by “new idea. “

Is it something like the presence of more Nintendo characters (and guests)? Or is it all about a new gameplay mechanic? Impossible to say at the moment. Even though the analyst is generally reliable, his claim regarding Mario Kart 9 should be taken with a grain of salt for now.

No Nintendo emergency

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the best selling games in Nintendo history. Last I heard, 38.74 million copies have been sold. And it continues to regularly take the top spots on the charts around the world. Nintendo is therefore in no hurry to release its sequel.

In addition, Nintendo has never released two Mario Karts on the same console. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is not, however, a new episode per se. The Switch has not yet had its own episode of Mario Kart. In addition, nothing obliges Nintendo to respect the scheme of “one Mario Kart per console.” The immense popularity of the Switch, combined with that of the Mario Kart license would in any case guarantee massive sales for Mario Kart 9. To be continued as the other would say.

What do you say about this claim about Mario Kart 9? Do you think it will be released on Nintendo Switch? What do you think is the new idea he is proposing? Give us your opinion in the comments below.
